Today marks the 205th birthday of our 14th president, Franklin Pierce. President Pierce served from 1853 to 1857 and was known as the "Young Hickory of the Granite Hills.” He was not named the Democratic nominee in 1857; he was replaced on the ticket by James Buchanan.
