July 4, 1966: Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into law.

Today is the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Freedom of Information Act into law. This allows the average citizen to gain access to federal agency records unless the records are protected by one of nine exemptions.

President Lyndon Baines Johnson's Birthday

Today marks the 101st birthday of our 36th president, Lyndon Baines Johnson. President Johnson served from 1963 to 1969 and was known as “LBJ.” Because of the Vietnam War, he is known as one of the least popular presidents in American History. To learn more, click on these links:

Civil Rights Act of 1964

On July 2, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act of 1964.  To commemorate the 45th anniversary of this event, the Earl K. Long Library is hosting a display (put together by yours truly).  This display will be up through the end of July, so I encourage you to stop by and see it if you can.
