July 4, 1966: Lyndon B. Johnson signs the Freedom of Information Act into law.

Today is the 45th anniversary of the signing of the Freedom of Information Act into law. This allows the average citizen to gain access to federal agency records unless the records are protected by one of nine exemptions.
