Congressional Medal of Honor
It has been announced that Tiger Woods, who was recommended for the Congressional Gold Medal for his work on and off the golf course, will not receive this high honor. So what exactly is the Congressional Gold Medal? Why, it is the highest award that a civilian can receive, and it has been in existence sine the year of this nation's birth--1776.
To receive the award, the nominee must be cosponsored by at least 2/3 of the House of Representatives. The standards can be found in Rule II(f)(1)(A) of the Rules for the Committee on Financial Services.
