Today marks the 187th birthday of our 19th president, Rutherford Birchard Hayes. President Hayes served from 1877 to 1881 and was known as the “Dark-Horse President.” The election he won in 1876 against Sam Tilden was very controversial; Tilden won the popular vote, but the electoral votes were very close.
