President Rutherford B. Hayes' Birthday

Today marks the 187th birthday of our 19th president, Rutherford Birchard Hayes. President Hayes served from 1877 to 1881 and was known as the “Dark-Horse President.” The election he won in 1876 against Sam Tilden was very controversial; Tilden won the popular vote, but the electoral votes were very close. The Republican party contested 20 of them, and President Hayes became the victor. To learn more, click on these links:
