President James Monroe's Birthday

Today marks the 251st birthday of our 5th president, James Monroe. President Monroe served from 1817 to 1825 and was known as the “Era-of-Good-Feelings President." His views on foreign policy would come to be known as the Monroe Doctrine and would be a long-standing policy held by the American government. He died on July 4, 1851--one of three presidents to die on Independence Day. To learn more, click on these links:

President Ulysses S. Grant's Birthday

Today marks the 187th birthday of our 18th president, Ulysses S. Grant. President Grant served from 1869 to 1877 and was known as the “Hero fo Appomattox." He was appointed General-in-Chief of the Union forces in March 1864 by President Abraham Lincoln. He died soon after completing the last page of his memoir in 1885. President James Buchanan's Birthday

Today marks the 218th birthday of our 15th president, James Buchanan. President Buchanan served from 1857-1861 and was known as "Old Buck." It was during his administration that the South would begin seceding from the Union. While he denied the legal right of states to secede, he also held that the Federal Government could not legally prevent them from doing so. This is the reason he tops of the U.S. News and World Report list of The 10 Worst Presidents. To learn more, click on these links:
